Kamoa Center of Excellence Welcomes New Cohort: Bursary Scholars Begin Their Life Changing Journey

We are pleased to announce that the cohort for the 2025-2026 academic year has been selected and confirmed. The recruitment process started in April with an open call for applications, followed by several weeks of interviews and assessments. Candidates who progressed through each stage received formal invitations to attend Onboarding Day at the Kamoa Centre of Excellence (KCE).

This year, KCE received an overwhelming number of applications for the bursary program from hundreds of eligible young Congolese, demonstrating the widespread ambition and talent throughout the country. Following a rigorous and highly competitive selection process, 37 outstanding candidates were selected to participate in this fully funded program, a life changing opportunity designed to unlock potential and develop the next generation of leaders.

The applicants represented a broad range of communities throughout the Greater Katanga region and neighboring communities surrounding the Kamoa-KakulaCopper Complex, reflecting the wide-reaching appeal and inclusive spirit of the program.

“I heard about the program through former participants and from the Kamoa Team who came to present at our school. This is a valuable opportunity for me because I believe it will help me strengthen my knowledge and skills in order to contribute to the development of my community and country. To all young people who may be interested, I would say: take your shot. Believe in yourself. This opportunity is open to all young Congolese — all you have to do is seize it.” Said Kadima Kazadi Moïse, a new intake from Mwilu village a neighboring community to Kamoa Copper.

First encounter and introduction to life at KCE, on the Orientation Day that took place on June 25, new bursary recipients kick off their journey with skill assessments in both mathematics, physics, chemistry and English followed by signing their bursary agreements The evaluations will serve to guide the academic approach for each student throughout the year.

Launching on September 1, 2025, the KCE Bursary Program embarks on a transformative year of learning and growth. Delivered through a strategic partnership with the University of Pretoria, this fully funded, one-year program is designed to equip talented young Congolese with the academic, technical, and personal skills essential for success in today’s dynamic professional landscape.

Tailored to prepare youth for the evolving demands of the job market, the KCE offers a distinctive learning experience that blends academic rigor with personal development and a strong emphasis on the mining sector. The curriculum includes core subjects such as English, mathematics, science, computer studies, and mining fundamentals, complemented by vital life and career skills in areas like professional ethics, communication, emotional intelligence, personal finance, and entrepreneurship.

“My wish for this cohort, as for all those before and those to come, is to see these young people become the future leaders of this country, men and women capable of transforming their communities, their industry and ultimately, the DRC as a whole.”
Nathalie Vounck, Program Director, Kamoa Centre of Excellence

“I’m excited to be part of this program, which will help me develop skills directly linked to the business world, especially in the mining sector. It will broaden my horizons and better prepare me for the professional world. My goal is to obtain the bursary at the end of the course to pursue further studies abroad, deepen my knowledge, and then return to the DRC to actively contribute to the development of my country.” expressed Kabeya DIBA Daniel, a new participant from Lubumbashi.

As the new cohort embarks on this transformative journey at the Kamoa Centre of Excellence, we extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes for a year filled with growth, discovery, and achievement.

May this experience empower each student to rise to their full potential and become catalysts for change in the communities and beyond.
